Is it just me, or is something seriously happening to my body? If that sounds familiar, Episode 1 of On the Mones is where you need to start. Kate Thomas opens by pulling back the curtain on perimenopause, hormones, libido loss and the quiet suffering so many women carry alone.
In this episode, Kate Thomas, an AHPRA-registered pharmacist with 25 years of clinical experience, breaks down:
Most women are never taught what perimenopause actually looks like. The cultural story tends to be hot flushes at 50 and periods stopping. But the hormonal transition often begins years earlier, and the symptoms can be surprisingly varied. Anxiety, brain fog, irritability, poor sleep, low libido and emotional sensitivity are all common perimenopause symptoms that are frequently missed or misattributed to stress, depression or simply getting older.
Kate uses one of her most popular analogies in this episode, explaining estrogen, progesterone and testosterone as a three-member girl band. When they are in sync, everything works beautifully. When they are not, things can feel chaotic. During perimenopause, estrogen fluctuates unpredictably, progesterone declines and testosterone gradually drops. The result can feel like mood swings, poor sleep, brain fog, low libido and a general sense of not feeling like yourself anymore.
One of the most common and least discussed symptoms of perimenopause is loss of libido. Kate addresses this directly and compassionately in Episode 1, making clear that it is not a personal failure and that evidence-based treatment options do exist. If this is something you are navigating, a telehealth pharmacist consultation can help you understand your options and prepare the right questions for your GP.
Absolutely. A pharmacist-led medication review is one of the most underused resources available to women navigating perimenopause and menopause in Australia. Kate offers telehealth consultations specifically designed for women who want clear answers about their hormones, HRT options, medications and supplements, without the rushed GP appointment.
Kate Thomas offers a range of in-depth telehealth medication consultation and medication review services to help you understand your body and your medications.
